OnGuard Collision Avoidance

OnGuard is a robot collision avoidance system designed to protect automated equipment, parts, fixtures, and end effectors from costly collisions. Using real-time monitoring and advanced algorithms, OnGuard helps prevent collisions while robots are running automatically, being driven manually, or during programming.

When Collisions Are Not An Option

As flexible robot automation increases in popularity, so does the need to protect expensive parts, fixtures, and end effectors from collisions. A robot collision with a part can cost thousands of dollars in damaged product and replacement end effectors, not to mention the additional costs associated with the downtime created by a collision.  

Concept Systems developed OnGuard to perform real-time collision avoidance calculations using 3D modeling and industrial computing. The system continuously evaluates the position and movement of robots and other equipment within the workcell to identify potential collisions before they occur. At the core of OnGuard is the Collision Avoidance Module (CAM), which provides several key capabilities:

Dynamic Collision Avoidance
Interfaces with 3D models and vision systems to understand robot and part positions within the workcell.

Real-Time Monitoring
Continuously monitors robot position and velocity to determine when equipment needs to slow or stop to prevent a collision.

Simulation Mode
Allows new robot paths and operating scenarios to be tested in a simulated environment before implementation.

User-Friendly Interface
Provides real-time 3D visualization and alarms to support system monitoring and troubleshooting.
